Another pic from our town's tiny park... It used to be a private garden, attached to the old rectory but now, it's open to the public. Well, the sign says it's a public space but Flynn doesn't believe WE count as The Public - he thinks it's his park, which I inexplicably allow strangers to occasionally wander about in! He is less than impressed when other people & dogs appear & have the audacity to stroll along "his" paths & worse: sit on the benches! Luckily, this time of year, it's often pretty empty here - except for a few fat wood pigeons which call the place home & which Flynn has grudgingly agreed are permitted to remain, so long as they don't make too much noise... He's such a grumpy old man!
Haha, I'll always remember one of Flynn's "grumpy old man" incidents... We were waiting for a friend who was arriving by train. It started raining, so we ducked into the small platform shelter. Soon, a guy in his late teens joined us. The three of us were the only ones present in the entire station. Near complete stillness & silence descended, even the rainfall was soft. Minutes passed. An announcement sounded: the train was delayed. The guy pulled his phone out & began playing music at high volume through the speakers - meaning it had that awful, tinny sound. I sighed to myself but had no intention of saying anything. Suddenly, from beside me there came a low, loud, pointed growl. It was over before I could react. Flynn barely twitched his ear, didn't even fully look at the man but the meaning of his grumble was very clear: "turn that racket off, boy!". Out the corner of my eye, I saw the poor chap go still, before hurriedly digging through his bag & extracting headphones! Quiet returned. Flynn went right back to staring calmly out into the rain, like nothing had happened. I was torn between embarrassment at my dog growling at a stranger (blatantly telling them to shut up!) & wanting to fall about laughing at the effectiveness of Flynn's communication. I was SO relieved when the train appeared & we could flee - I suspect I wasn't the only one!
In my search for the perfect blue square, seen in Special Blends, I went through many iterations. Here are nine of the rejects that I found interesting.
Almost didn't do this. At all. I had the hardest time drawing anything.....but here you go. Faster than usual arts.
It bugs me that I changed the blue of the text balloons (Which I stole off the internets) but it was hard to read. Still is.....
The lighting standards on Westminster Bridge are already very ornate but when the light begins to fade and the lamps come on they give off a gorgeous green tinged light. Westminster Bridge was one of the designated meeting points for the Photo 24 London participants. As a result we'd been walking up, down, around, over, and under it for well over an hour checking out all the great views it seems to offer. I took a similar shot to this during the daylight hours but really wanted to return when the lights came on. Well worth the wait me thinks!
Did you know the bridge is painted predominantly green, the same colour as the leather seats in the House of Commons which is on the side of the Palace of Westminster nearest the bridge. This is in contrast to Lambeth Bridge which is red, the same colour as the seats in the House of Lords which is on the opposite side of the Houses of Parliament.
In 2005–2007 it underwent a complete refurbishment, including replacing the iron fascias and repainting the whole bridge. It links the Palace of Westminster on the west side of the river with County Hall and the London Eye on the east and was the finishing point during the early years of the London Marathon.

I felt like posting something a little different today. So I decided to post a photo I took this weekend of our cat, Fiona. I think it turned out pretty cool. I hope that you guys think the same. By the way, have a great week.

I had a really good day today.
Yes, 9.72s!! I will always remember this guy’s name: Usain Bolt from Jamaica – just like a lightning bolt, 21 years old, the 5th time in a race and he broke the men’s 100m world record… I watched the whole race live at the Icahn Stadium in the Reebok Randall’s Island Grand Prix meet. It was breathtaking… in fact, he got Tyson Gay (9.85s) chasing the whole way, read here.
I and several friends of mine were watching the whole tournament especially to see the world champion and Olympic gold medalist Liu Xiang to compete in the Men’s 110m hurdle. But it turned out that Xiang mildly hurt his hamstring during practice and therefore couldn’t race just to be conservative for the coming Olympics … he came and said sorry to all the fans though :) It was late at night. Just when we were about to leave, someone said oh let’s see the last race - the Men’s 100m. And of course we stayed and were expecting Tyson Gay to put up yet another amazing performance. But now you know what happened… I am glad that I wasn’t trying to shoot photos in the race otherwise I would miss seeing the most amazing 100m race in my life. I was standing in the middle of the home stretch on the audience stand. There were 2 false starts before they finally got a clean one… when the runners passed my location, Usain Bolt was 1.5 yard ahead of Tyson Gay and both seemed to be in the same pace but we then saw Mr. Bolt hit the finish line first. I was just about to talk, one of my friends yelled at us – look at this, 9.71. He broke the world record!!! (they later adjusted it to 9.72 adding the wind speed) Oh yes, I knew that Tyson would not run slow but it was this guy who ran really fast… just amazing! Then he walked the whole lap and came around to the home stretch again... that's when I took this photo. There were thousands of Jamaican fans chanting and he waved to them, may not be realizing how excited everybody was…
Oh btw, it was a nice Saturday evening, loved it! I watched the amazing performances by Veronica Campbell-Brown (my all-time favorite :)) (10.91s) in the Women’s 100m, Wallace Spearmon’s 20.07s in 200m and Xavier Carter’s 44.70s in the Men’s 400m. Really nice races! And, Sanya Richards was signing autographs and taking photos with fans at the end :)
