The North American Aviation AT-6 Texan is an American single-engined advanced trainer aircraft, which was used to train pilots of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), United States Air Force (USAF), United States Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and other air forces of the British Commonwealth during World War II and into the 1970s. The T-6 Texan remains a popular warbird used for airshow demonstrations and static displays. It has also been used many times to simulate various historical aircraft, including the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero.

In the heat.

Today...

The hottest May day ever recorded in Britain at 32 degrees (89.6f) and although many places are used to even hotter, and rather laugh at our reaction to heat, it is very unpleasant in England.

I think because we are a country of deciduous soft plants it is so stuffy, airless and 'close' as older people used to say. Absolutely zapping! Like being in a hot box.

This is our engine room, the office and it faces south west and we don't loose the sun in midsummer until about 8.45pm, behind those trees at the end of the garden. At the moment I'm sat at that keyboard and I hate to think what the temperature is in here!

I've opened the metal (plastic) blind to show the garden and get some air through (few British houses have air-con, a generation ago it would have been laughable.) Normally I keep it closed so I can see the screens but at this time of year it is still bright and a struggle. We do need a decent blackout blind...I think I need to work on my other half about that.

And don't be impressed by all that techno on my behalf.

My other half is a sound and vision engineer so all that is due to him and I just piggy back on it. I'm much more of an artist (my background as an illustrator), poking about and seeing what works rather than a technician.

A lot of records, 2000 of them, some of them his own church and organ recordings from when he had a mobile recording studio as a young man.

The cheesy (and not so cheesy blues) disco type ones are mine from my glory days. Don't sniff, I was like quicksilver on the dance floor and can still outdance most people and for a shy person I've always been able to dance like no one is watching which I find very strange about myself.

The books are mine and goodness knows how many of those I have in every room in the house (and cupboards…. and that bookcase is two books deep!)

Mostly art, architecture and history, some expensive, many for pennies my dad and I bought from library sales and charity shops, and all my old books and paperbacks I bought as a (typical only child) with my pocket money.

We have other cupboards full of his books...completely out of date techo books the size of family bibles explaining computer programming and the like from the 70s and 80s (yawn.)

It is so bright in here I now can't see the screen and it is sooo hot!

I've remembered I've just been to a country pub for a pint (the Pear Tree at Hooky - Hook Norton - as always) and mixed with the heat that's why you're getting this self indulgent delirious ramble.

Forgive me if I've waffled on too much for a 'photo-sharing website!'

A proverb that comes from an ancient Latin proverb says “semel in anno licet insanire”, or translated “once a year it is permissible to go mad”…! The carnival celebration has ancient origins, dating back to the period of pagan religion, from the Saturnalia of ancient Rome and also from the Dionysian festivals of the classical period of ancient Greece, and the disguise itself dates back to the times of Apuleius and the Egyptian goddess Isis, during which there were numerous masked groups, a custom that was imported into the Roman Empire. I present here a series of photographs, taken during the carnival in Taormina (taken on Sunday and Tuesday), with posed or caught portraits, people belonging to masked groups combined with the allegorical floats, or people masked on their own, all having in common the desire, the wish to have fun, or rather, as the ancient Latin saying goes, with the desire all to … “go mad”, at least… (once a year…!).

.……………………………
