Mixed freight train 10N grinds through the big curve at milepost 131 along Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line at Newport PA in what was the start of a daylight snow storm that would bring several inches of snow to Central Pennsylvania.
The shipwreck of the Maria Schröder 'Al-Gharqana' lies atop the reef approximately 100-meters offshore. Some parts of the wreck are visible on top of the reef plate, while the rest is scattered over the sloping reef, down to 24 meters deep.
On 11 April 1956, while en route from Aqaba, Jordan to West Germany, the ship ran aground on a reef at Nabq at position 28.10N/34.30E.
At the base of the wreck in the surrounding coral there is a wide variety of aquatic life to be seen. The site is popular with bird-watchers and snorkelers.

From the archives - A few days before Christmas, a major snow storm hit the eastern Pennsylvania area. One day after the storm passed through, a pair of SD70M-2 diesels crawl through Cove, PA on the eastern end of the Pittsburgh Line with manifest 10N.
From the Archives– Back in the Spring of 2007, standard cab SD70 2516 was earning her keep as she led manifest 10N through Lilly, PA on the west slope of the Pittsburgh Line. NS was just one of 3 Class 1 railroads to purchase the standard cab SD70 (Conrail and Illinois Central were the others). It was always a treat to catch them leading trains out on the mainline to offer a break from the monotony of widecab GEs. The 2516 was eventually rebuilt as SD70ACC 1843 in December of 2019.
I was hunkered down at CP Cannon a few miles west of here when out of the corner of my eye I saw an orange engine streaking across the stone arch bridge at Shermans Creek. Realizing it was the Interstate heritage unit, I threw my Jeep in drive and motored out toward the highway to run this guy down.
I managed to get ahead of him at Perdix, MP 114 along the Norfolk Southern Pittsburgh Line, and grab a few frames as he leads mixed freight train 10N toward Harrisburg.
10N crosses the swollen Schuylkill River behind Norfolk Southern's latest paint adaptation, NS 1801.
After a crew change was completed just east of here, NS mixed freight 10N rolls through the east end of Allentown Yard with EMD SD70ACC conversion unit #1801 in the lead.
M0N (extra 10N) works east near Union Furnace, crossing the Little Juniata River with NS 4000 and 4005 for power.

The Norfolk Southern "Honoring Our Veterans" SD60e limps it's way into Harrisburg on the head end of mixed freight 10G. A glowing red electrical wire caused the unit to lose its leader status east of the Capital City.
The most recently released NS "America 250" painted engine, NS 8096, is on the point of NS 10N which came down from Detroit and in this view has just completed their pickup in Toledo and is shoving back to the rest of their train sitting on the Detroit line. The old bridge abutments to the right of the engine once carried the NKP over the NYC and the bridge remained for many years after the railroad but was removed in 2014. Toledo, OH 9/18/2026
NS 1700 "Erie-Lackawanna" SD45-2 heritage unit leads NS 10N (Conway-Allentown, PA) with a monster 12,000-ton train.
Wir schreiben Tag 2 der Foto-Veranstaltung "CKD-Power". Während am ersten Tag 754 013 der Star des Tages war, setzte man am Tag zwei noch einen drauf. Die erst seit Anfang des Jahres wieder im Betriebsdienst stehe 751 207, welche an die Lackierung der 749 214 erinnert, war mit einem 10n Wagen starken Kesselzug unterwegs.
Wie schon am Tag zuvor ging es in aller früh los, diesmal nach Slavkov u. Brna.
Auch dieser Bahnhof bietet noch, die für die Strecke Typischen Formsignale.
Getreu dem Motto: "Morgenstund hat Gold im Mund" passierte die 751 207 mit dem Pn 97101 das erste Motiv des Tages.

Built in 1972 for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, NS 1703 is one of six SD45-2s on the NS Roster. They are equipped with cab signals; however, rarely lead on the Pittsburgh Line. That was not the case today. 10N's original leader was an SD60E which failed. So the power was spun at AR and this was the result. The train is seen taking the ex PRR signals at MP 225.
NS mixed freights 10N and 38G meet on the bridge over the Lehigh River with a new EMD SD70ACC conversion unit in the lead.
A trio of well-worn EMDs works Reading as 10N. They'll be making a sizable setoff for the Reading and Northern to pick up on their next trip down.
Norfolk Southern train 10N rolls past the old Reading train station in Wernersville, which is used by the Heidelberg Heritage Society. Ninety years old this year, it hasn't seen a passenger since 1963. The old covered platform has deteriorated over the decades but the new tenants have restored and kept the station looking like it did in it's heyday, complete with Reading Company station signs.

This Dash 9 led manifest, which I believe to have been 10N, snuck up on me and I wasn't ready. But I quickly reset my camera and fired away.
NS 1700 leads 99 loads and 7 empty's through the interlocking at C, once east of the control point helper N63 will tie on the rear and shove 10N over the mountain.
59 years ago today, October 17, 1960, Erie Lackawanna came into existence. Financially troubled for most of its 16 years, the carrier still managed to put forth one of the classiest appearing rosters of all time. One day after what would've been EL's 55th birthday NS SD45-2 1700 leads eastbound freight 10N at Cresson, PA as dusk arrives. Resplendent in it's original 1972 paint, the former EL 3669 provides a nice splash of color to a brace of black and white NS units.
