An October Stroll

Afternoon shadows sweep across a trail through historic Ringwood Manor park, burial site of Robert Erskine. As Geographer and Surveyor General, he was a valuable mapmaker for George Washington during the Revolutionary War. His ghost is said to appear near his tomb by the lake in the early morning hours, or to carry a lantern and walk with guests along the lane to the wooden bridge late at night. These tales may not be so far fetched, as the native Lenape people long regarded this area as a special and magical place.
