Diesel Prototype 2, DP2
The battered locomotive DP2 (Diesel Prototype 2) on July 31st 1967 after an accident at Thirsk in North Yorkshire. DP2 was hauling the 1A26 12:00 King's Cross to Edinburgh service when it collided with some of the 02:50 Cliffe to Uddingston cement train wagons which had derailed moments before. 7 passengers where killed.
DP2 was deemed damaged beyond repair and was cut up in 1968. DP2 wasn't really a deltic at all.. it was a testbed for the power units in the then forthcoming Class 50.
