British Railways Standard Class 4MT, 80072 and English Electric Type 3 D6729

Preserved British Railways Standard Class 4MT 2-6-4T steam locomotive 80072 just outside Ongar Station on the heritage Epping Ongar Railway (EOR) in Essex (UK).

80072 was designed by Robert Riddles, built at Brighton Works entering service in November 1953 with withdrawal from traffic in July 1965.

80072 then spent the next 23 years languishing in Woodhams scrap yard in Barry Wales before being rescued in a very sorry state for full restoration by enthusiasts in 1988.

In the background and stabled for the day is preserved English Electric Type 3 diesel locomotive D6729 (BR Class 37, 37029).

D6729 was built by English Electric at The Vulcan Foundry Newton le Willows in 1961 and withdrawn from traffic as 37029 on December 31st 2007.
