English Electric DP2 (Diesel Prototype 2)
English Electric Type 5 (Class 55) bodied Type 4 Co-Co diesel locomotive DP2 (Diesel Prototype 2) stabled alongside the signal box circa 1965 at King's Cross Station in London (UK).
DP2 was involved in a serious incident on July 31st 1967 at Thirsk in North Yorkshire when it collided with some cement wagons which had derailed. Seven passengers where killed.
DP2 was built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry Newton le Willows in 1962 as a testbed for the power units in the then forthcoming Class 50 locomotive and was cut up after the Thirsk incident in 1968.
