365.55 Travel day from hell :(

On Wednesday we were supposed to get a flight back from Amsterdam Schiphol airport. We were getting ready to leave when we heard the news about the plane crash. Aral had to be back for a conference on Thursday so we quickly booked Eurostar tickets thinking that might be our only way back home as we didn't know how bad the crash was.

When we got to the station to pick up our tickets they told us we had to pick up our tickets from Brussels, which was the half way stop on our Journey, we stared in disbelief, but sure enough they had sold us tickets that we couldn't possibly pick up or use until we got halfway through the journey we had already paid for. The only way was to buy another ticket and then pick up the tickets when we got to Brussels. This we grudgingly did, and on the train we got. Halfway through the trip to Brussels, the conductor checked our tickets and said we were on the wrong train and had to pay on top to stay on board! We were so angry by this point, the whole thing was ludicrous. Because we didn't have the right tickets we didn't have assigned seat numbers, and sure enough at one stop someone got on board that had our seat numbers on our tickets, so then we had to move seats :( This photo was taken shortly before that.

When we got to Brussels we tried to pick up our tickets from the machine, but out of the 5 only 2 were working and they wanted a 4 number code that we didn't have, so we had to go to the desk and get them to print out our tickets.

Phew! by this point we were pretty much exhausted. We finally got on the Eurostar and made it back to London and then took a train to Brighton. Not once did anyone apologise to us, or give us any help.

Possibly the most ridiculous journey I've ever made.

Eurostar needs to be sold to someone that can actually run a decent service.
