Shrikrishna Pundoor
Prayers
No, it wasn't my sister, my father, my friend
it was a part of me that died.
I watched my city burn today,
watched it fight, fall. Watched it cry.
Watched in the safety of my home,
surrounded by family and friends,
while other lost theirs to this deadly theatrical act,
which seemed like it would never end
A few men, a few guns, their crazed ruthlessness,
calmly entering through the sea..
ending hundreds of lives, breaking thousands more.
making a billion more like me.
It seems surreal our very existence,
there's a void that can't be filled.
hollow and helpless, we wait, mute spectators
watching our people being killed
There have been heroes, who without a second thought,
for us laid down their lives.
In the futility of it all, their courage, their sacrifice,
inspires us in our strife.
Yet with every tragic unnecessary death,
I see the very value of life fall.
Who till an hour ago was somebody's husband,
is but another number to us all.
No, it wasn't my sister, my father, my friend.
it was for mankind that I cried.
For I watched humanity burn today.
Watched it fight, fall and die.
- Author unknown, but simply incredible.
