Forchbahn at Kreuzplatz

The reason for visiting Kreuzplatz was to see yet another of the many attractions of the amazing Zürich transport system, the Forchbahn. The Forchbahn is a 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) gauge narrow-gauge light railway, linking central Zürich (Zürich Stadelhofen) to the eastern suburbs near Esslingen via Forch. The name is often abbreviated to just FB, which also appears on the trains. Locals call the train "Auntie Frieda" ("Tante Frieda"). Between Stadelhofen and Rehalp the FB shares the tracks with VBZ line 11, and runs as a (limited-stop) tramway, but then it changes character and turns into a light railway, given number S18 in the S-Bahn network. On Sunday it was running to a half-hourly frequency, uisng Stadler Be 4/6 six car sets.
