WORK IN PROGRESS

The steel arch bridge at Galena, Illinois, spans the IC railroad and Galena River, providing pedestrians with safe access to the downtown area from Grant Park.

This version of the 40-year old structure was cut out of expanded PVC sheet (a.k.a. "sintra") with separate bracing added in between both halves, followed with a coat of "hammered finish" spray paint. The stone steps and pier are sintra as well, with masonry details carved and filed into place and then painted with craft acrylics. This may be considered a proof of concept-type project, plus the deck and stairway still need railings, but for now I think it captures the basic flavor of the bridge.
