Hot Dragonfly Love

Today I spent the morning at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA because I wanted to shoot flower macros. My niece, for whom in the past I have sweated shooting butterflies and been pooped on shooting lorakeets, wanted dragonfly pictures this time.

Well, I must really love that kid because I hate these bugs. They gross me out. But I said I would try. So I sat on my haunches and waited for these rascals to stay in one place. I saw two flying around together but not landing. Then I said to myself "Self, how much you wanna bet they're going mate right in front of me?"

No sooner had I said that to myself than two horny dragonflies landed right on the lily pad in front of me and starting knocking boots, uh wings, in front of my nose. I was so embarrassed to be witness to this very private moment that I did what any other aunt on a quest for dragonfly shots for her niece would do- I took 17 pictures during their special time, which I have to say, grossed me out even more than just looking at them did.

It must be me. Bugs and birds seem to want to get busy when I'm in front of them. This summer two lorakeets got it on at the zoo while I was shooting; I had two parrots get busy in front of me in Butterfly World,

then two butterflies got it on while I was shooting. Do they hear the shutter click and say "Hey! Show time!" I don't get it. But these bugs sure did.

Thank God I wasn't shooting gorillas.
