Five Below interior
Five Below #6260 (10,007 square feet)
5545 North Croatan Highway, The Marketplace, Southern Shores, NC
Opened October 13th, 2023; previously Dollar General, later Dollar Tree (closed in 2022)
Towards the end of 2021 and through the beginning of 2023, Southern Shores' Marketplace shopping center underwent a redevelopment that saw the demolition of some small inline tenant spaces in favor of newly-built Rack Room Shoes and Marshalls locations. With these stores also came the addition of a Five Below, taking over a space next to Food Lion that had previously been occupied by Dollar Tree. This was my first exposure to the company's current look, which was introduced in 2017 and replaced this look, as well as my first time seeing the "Ten Below" department at the back of the store, where the electronic items are located as well as any other items priced over five bucks. The store also has multiple self-checkout registers, and, unlike older stores, they have single-occupancy restrooms available to the public. The overall salesfloor layout remains the same, with the front corners occupied by seasonal and checkout and the left and right walls featuring candy, clothing, toys, and general merchandise.
