Harris Teeter interior

Harris Teeter #467 (38,685 square feet)

2129 General Booth Boulevard, Suite 111, Strawbridge Marketplace, Virginia Beach, VA

Opened December 12th, 2018; originally Safeway (May 1987-late 1987), later Gene Walters' Marketplace (late 1987-1992), Farm Fresh (1992-April 2018)

Hey look, the first Farm Fresh-turned-Harris Teeter opened today! I just mentioned last week how there had been no announcement made about these openings until about five days ago when the local news outlets wrote about this store. I guess this means the other nine locations are gonna be opening on Wednesdays through February (probably excluding the day after Christmas). I'm about to have a busy winter!

If this store is reflective of the other locations opening then Harris Teeter is certainly going for a much more uniform look inside compared to what Kroger did. All the department signage here is just the names written in Times New Roman against a small brown rectangle, without any specific pictures or colors to accompany it. I think it looks nice but lacks the flair that Kroger provided. I also thought the reversed layout was interesting (produce/fresh meats on the left, frozen food aisles on the right), but it was already like that when it was Farm Fresh. It also doesn't have a pharmacy, which is why the storefront sign lacks the "Neighborhood food & pharmacy" tag.

But yeah, Harris Teeter grand opening. Cool stuff. I can't wait to check out the other locations when they open, most of which are also in Virginia Beach. I'll keep an eye out for the next opening date announced.
