Retreiving seed collection bags at Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park

Tasmanian Seed Conservation Centre (TSCC) volunteer Tim Rudman removing a seed collection bag at Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. The TSCC returned to retrieve 88 bags from plants of a Leionema oldfieldii population, which had been were bagged in late January as the fruits were forming. Using cloth bags tied to branches to capture seed as it drops naturally can be an effective method for some shrubs, particularly when they occur in remote locations. The seed harvested will be stored for conservation and research purposes at the TSCC seed bank, based at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. All seed collection is carried out under authorised permit and permissions.
