Keystone
Continuing my ghost town slide series, this is a stone cabin in Keystone, Nevada. I made a quick visit there in 2003 and found four or five cabins like this and several more that had totally collapsed. The scary thing about this place was several vertical mine shafts covered with a few dried out sagging boards. It was not a good place to wander around.
Keystone was a small mining town started in 1868 with a population of about 50, which was enough to support two saloons. It didn't last long, but revived in 1910 when silver was discovered, then mining in the area continued until around 1990. I found a reference to a large mill on the site that was demolished by miners leeching old tailings. Too bad.
