Pueblo Llano es una comunidad rural de los Andes Venezolanos que en los últimos treinta años ha presentado tasas de suicidio sobre los 40 por 100 mil habitantes, valores seis veces mayores que los de todo el país y cifras comparables a los índices más altos a escala mundial, según datos de investigación desarrollada por el Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas, mediante su Laboratorio de Antropología del Desarrollo dirigido por el Dr. Eliézer Árias.

A través de pertenencias de las víctimas y espacios vinculados al acto suicida en la región, transita la mirada de “Visiones del agujero”, metáfora que hace alusión a la técnica fotográfica empleada en este proyecto, (pinhole) y que a su vez sugiere una lectura sombría de las ausencias.

 

 

VISIONS FROM THE HOLE

Pueblo Llano, a rural community located in the high Andean valleys of Venezuela, has shown suicide rates of over 40 per 100,000 inhabitants in the last thirty years, levels that are six times higher than the ones in the rest of the country and figures that are comparable only with the highest rates in the world, according to the data of the research project from the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Researches (Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas, IVIC) led by Dr. Eliézer Árias, head of the Anthropology of the Development laboratory.

The victim’s belongings and spaces linked to the suicidal act is where “Visions from the Hole” goes through as a metaphor that alludes the photographic technique used in this project, the pinhole photography, and in turn, it suggests a gloomy reading of the absences.
