74. The rock was manually carved with clasp, slow and steady, in the Catalina Monulesti gold mine gallery in Rosia Montana
Only open to tourists for five deay a year (August 14 - 18 and International Miner's Day), the Cătălina Monulești gold mine is a complex maze of tunnels spanning across two millenia of gold mining.
On August 14 I was fortunate enough of being able to travel to Roșia Montană and see for myself - and, should you allow, for you as well - some of the Roman tunnels still standing after 2,000 years, which is really impressive.
Roșia Montană Gold Corporation only recently (2012) opened it up for public visiting, guided - of course - and this is a good, safe and pleasant experience for non-claustrophobil folks.
Anyway, as soon as I got word that this gold mine was partially-open to public visiting, I scheduled myself a one-day trip to the place and, as you shall see, it was all worth it.
