Following a recent fatal crash of a different MD-11F, the FAA issued an emergency airworthiness directive on November 8, 2025, grounding all MD-11 and MD-11F aircraft for immediate structural inspections. The aircraft cannot fly again until these mandatory inspections of the engine and pylon assemblies are completed and any necessary repairs are made. FedEx is in the process of performing these inspections, after which the aircraft is expected to return to service.
