Buckets

These were on display at the open air museum in Lindlar promoting an exhibition about ... buckets! (and their significance for country life)

Technical NoteThe optical quality of the original photograph was attrocious, very noisy and lots of colourful haloes - thank goodness for Neat Image. But I also learnt a trick - because I use a P+S, you can't control DOF as well as an SLR and I wanted to blur the background. Normally I'd use a gaussian filter. Because of the filthy lens there were colour haloes and gaussian blur made this worse - it caused the colours to leak out behind the mask. A different mask left a sharp area that looked strange. I tried out the the median filter instead and it produced better color blurring but it looked unnatural. So I used gaussian blur to blur the luminosity and the median filter to blur the color layer to produce a more pleasing and halo free result.
