Bison Stare Down

Nikon Z9

Z NIKKOR 600mm f/4

I recently finished a trip to Yellowstone National Park. The winter workshop saw temperatures as cold as -20 (Fahrenheit) and as warm as about freezing during the days. It was a good chance to try and capture some snowy bison.

As the week long workshop progressed, my approach to how to best capture these wonderful animals changed. Initially, I was very worried about not overexposing the snow... which in turn created some pretty dark bison.

About day two... I tossed that out and really cranked up the exposure so that the wonderful coloring was the main focus of my exposure. Then in post, Nik Color Efex (Detail Extractor) was used to pull back in some of the snow details.
