I had a chance to make some images with Laura. Laura is the mom of Addison (of D3100 fame).

Laura spent a good portion of the night in the water. First it was trying out the new portable reflection pond. (It still needs more work.) Then we moved on the the pool. This image was made near midnight and the temperture had dropped into the mid-60s.

You can see here that her professionalism really paid off!

Can't wait to work with her again. Maybe next time she will get to stay dry.

Tech Stuff: I put my SB-900 into a really old PhotoFlex Softbox. I used this one because, once on the stand (an old one of those too), I placed the whole thing into the pool. The bottom 1/3 of the softbox was submerged. I really wanted the light skimming across the water, not bouncing off the surface. I used a boom arm weight to weigh it down and help keep it steady in the water.

I used the 200-400mm from a tripod (flattened to about 6" off the ground) on the pool deck. I thought about getting in the water, but I think this worked better.

Note to my wife: I am NOT a packrat! I keep all the old crappy stuff for when I have to do shoots like this.
