Cook is located on a stretch of track that extends 297 miles (yes, 297 miles!, or 478 kilometers) without a curve across the Nullarbor Plain. The longest tangent track in the world. A recent census listed Cook's population at 4. I was told that if you traveled north from here, the nearest paved highway is 1100 miles away.
