The High Desert of the Southwest
From High Desert of the Southwest: The high desert of the Southwest USA is a fascinating location with virtually endless interesting photo compositions. The “high desert” is an arid region that lies on the Colorado Plateau. The Colorado Plateau is an extensive elevated area that comprises large portions of Southern Utah, Northern Arizona, Western Colorado, and NE New Mexico. It averages 5,000 - 6,000 feet, or 1,500 - 1,800 meters above sea level, with mountains extending upwards and canyons cutting downwards. The most famous canyon cutting deep into the plateau is, of course, the Grand Canyons. It is an ancient sea bed eroded over the millennia into endless fantastical forms.
