Tui on Gorse
Whilst walking up behind Cannon Point (in Upper Hutt) we came across this Tui nonchalantly feasting on Gorse flowers and completely unfazed by our presence. The far background is the Tararua Ranges
We got to within 2 metres of it and it continued to ignore us completely.
They are a protected species, although highly prized for their meat by the Maoris. They make a lot of noise in flying, and are considered to be the avian equivalent of the Bumble Bee around NZ.
