Tehachapi Loop

Railfanning at the Tehachapi Loop, central California.

 

We picked a sweet spot on a rock outcropping just above the loop, then sat and waited for over an hour for any sign of action. Finally we were treated to one train going downhill, followed shortly thereafter by an uphill one.

 

It may not look very exciting, but it's a lot of fun watching the longer trains monopolize the entire landscape; as it passes through the tunnel and around the hill, it loops over itself and then right into the foreground.
