LIfe drawing
Pastel and charcoal. Most of my figure drawings are done by first outlining in heavy black, then erasing the outline (leaving a shadow of the drawing) to give a grey ground for pastel color and highlighting; a technique which evolved from pen line drawings, my most familiar style. This is one of the first where I tried to use pastels directly rather than as a line-drawing infill. The black lines were added last as a kind of emphasis, rather than as an initial framework. The result is quite different from the drawings produced by the other method: airier, less 'solid', and in some ways more like a painting than a line drawing. I will try to do more of these.
