Clockwise from top: inner planet cage with sun pinions; hub shell; three-prong dog clutch; axle with pushrod and cross-pin in situ; clutch housing. The small ring in the centre is a ball race which fits on the shoulder of the axle (to the right of the cross-pin) and provides the bearing for the clutch mechanism on the underside of the planet cage. The larger ring to the right is the cover for the pawls, which are located in the top of the clutch housing. It is secured by the three longer screws in the tin-lid to the right. The six pawls are scattered in pairs about the centre of the picture - they are roughly keyhole-shaped.

 

The drawing below is from the original patent for the hub, the nearest I could get to any sort of guide, though some details are different.
