2311_1944 Mule Deer Rut
The Mule Deer rut is on again, and will continue for the next ten to twelve days. This shot is from two years ago.
Deer society is so interesting. Here, two smallish bucks circle each other warily; note the flattened ears. Another looks on from the left. And at the right, along comes the boss, seemingly prepared to send the youngsters on their way.
The does, meanwhile, appear unimpressed and uninterested.
Actual fights? They're pretty rare.
I'm going to have to cool my jets for a few days, though, as we had a major dump of snow yesterday and last night, and the roads won't be passable for a while. Winter's here!
This is the last in my set of wildlife I couldn't get close to; starting tomorrow, a closer look at Mule Deer.
