2106_1565 Great Horned Owlets
Two owlet siblings were sticking close to each other that day, two years ago. I don't know if they grew up to be the adult pair I photographed recently (and posted yesterday). They were pretty cute, though.
I shot this still during the filming of Wild Prairie Man; these were among the wildlife subjects I located for the directer, George Tsougrianis. He was right beside me, rolling video. And my pal Madonna was hired to shoot stills that day (she did a terrific job). So there were three of us on the ground - perhaps more humans than these young owls had ever seen. I'm sure they didn't know what to make of us. The parent birds were nowhere to be seen. The soft light that day was perfect, as there were no confusing, criss-crossing shadows from all those cottonwood branches.
Photographed in Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©2021 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
