Lawrence of the Sewers
Legend has it that a young Lawrence of Arabia traveled this underwater stream in Oxford.
The legend is disputed, some think it was impossible to go through in 1908. In the '30s it was dredged, yielding a Victorian era punt with three skeletons.
A modern explorer, Alan Trinder, recalls "My lasting memory of that trip is the number and size of rats we encountered."
