Haunted

This was our first halloween at the new house and it was interesting to see what the neighborhood kids and their parents thought of our house. Many thought it was too creepy to chance a visit… even for candy.

The house was built in the 1860s while the rest of the neighborhood was made in the 1960s, so it's very different. You can't see it from the road and it's at the end of a long, dark driveway. The rest of the neighborhood is small lots and nondescript little houses right on the street. (This was the farm house for an old farm. When the farm was subdivided for development they kept the farm house, registered it as an historical landmark, and gave it a large, weird parcel of land from the subdivision.)

We carved some happy pumpkins and put a few on the gates in front and lined the drive with luminaria. For awhile I stood out front and tried to encourage people to come in, but that was creepy too, I guess. Anyway, I heard several groups say that they weren't going to risk it, too scary, not on your life, etc.

In the end I think about half the groups chanced it, and other half gave us a wide berth.

It's pretty cool to be scary without even trying.
