Christmas Snowguy
We spent Christmas Eve & Christmas Day at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Lake George, New York, USA & had many fun experiences--mostly related to people or food. Christmas Eve was very quiet at our hotel, only a few guests. We had a great time getting to know the desk clerk on duty till 11 pm--Becky! She was a lovely young woman, with a personality to match, the same age as my younger son. Perhaps because hotel use was so low that night, when we checked in, she upgraded us from our standard room to the biggest one in the hotel, which included a living area w/ couch & easy chair, a full-sized table w/ two chairs, & a kitchenette, complete with sink, fridge, & microwave! We stayed in comfort, for $98 a night! During the night, on the 24th, we had a light snow--maybe 2 inches of powder. Christmas evening found us in the whirlpool by the indoor pool, chatting with a mom, dad, & 4th grader from NYC. Just outside the window, behind the hotel, someone had built a darling, mini-snowperson approximately 3 feet tall. When we remarked on how cute it was, we learned that it had been built by our spa friends! We photographed it Christmas night. (This was an auto-focus night shot, taken with flash.) Prior to that, I spent much of Christmas Day scanning the Internet for restaurants that were open! Lake George is, primarily, a summer resort town, so many businesses close by October. I was able to find a great Chinese restaurant--Chopsticks, in Queensbury--where we had abundant, well-flavored lunch choices, accompanied by soup, for a total of about $10 for the two of us! I, also, discovered that the Uno Chicago Grill in Queensbury (about 10 minutes from our hotel) would be open till 10 pm! We enjoyed a relaxed dinner there at about 7 pm. Our waiter, Dale, was delightful! I had prime rib; Duane had lobster & shrimp scampi--neither on our vegan diet! After dinner, we drove around the area, taking photos of Christmas lights. Then, we topped off the evening with a large cup of mint hot chocolate, thanks to the 24-hour Cumberland Farms in Warrensburg! It was a low-key, but enjoyable Christmas, 2012!
