Juniper

Bryce National Park, UT.

You could probably tell that I am going through an insatiable binge of re-developing my Southwest pictures in black and white. This one, again from my 2009 Southwest trip, was shot during a daylong hike on a trail in Bryce National Park. For this hike, I packed light with just one lens (18-200 mm) and a polarizer. I shot this at midday and the polarizer helped bring out the dramatic clouds. The midday harsh contrast and tones made this image very striking in B&W. The dead Juniper tree provided a visual interest.
