an experiment in going organic
The Woodland Park Zoo Rose Garden decided to go off of their pesticide spraying routine and try something new. They are trying to give the plants a boost by spraying them with compost tea (plus a strong jet of water knocks aphids off). They are also replacing very disease prone roses with more resistant varieties.
Personally, I am happy and feel like some black spot here and there is worth not having people and bees inhaling the sprays.
Now if they would just stop trimming those trees to look like giant poos.
