The planning phase

I wasn't sure how I wanted to do the color blocks: as overlain pieces, or single thickness like a patchwork quilt. I went for the overlain pieces as I thought I would have more freedom with the lines. I think that this was the way to go since even after measuring multiple times, one line still ended up uneven when I sewed the sides together.
