it's the Auto-Train!

I first heard of Auto-Train while paging through a recent guide to all Amtrak routes. I figured this card pre-dated Amtrak--the cute outfit at bottom left might be pre-1971--but wondered why no railroad was named. I learned it was the privately-owned Auto-Train Corporation, operating on the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad and Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac tracks. The corporation lasted until 1981, and Amtrak didn't take over this service until 1983.

Back of card:

The Auto-Train carries passengers and their automobiles on the same train between suburban Washington, D.C. and sunny Florida.

Passengers travel in luxurious coach lounge cars and enjoy complimentary meals and entertainment while their automobiles are transported in fully enclosed auto-carriers.

For reservations and information, phone toll free [xxx]...in Florida, call [xxx].
