Poplar Island Terrapin Release - Easton High School (May 13, 2013)

Terrapins from Poplar Island are getting a “head start” on life. Students from Easton High School have been raising diamondback terrapin hatchlings throughout the school year. On May 13, their story came full circle as the hatchlings, which grew to the size of a 3-year-old terrapin in a 9-month period, were released back into the Bay off of Poplar Island where they were born. The program, sponsored by the Maryland Port Administration, provides a great stewardship opportunity for local students as they learn about this important Chesapeake Bay keystone species.
