These are "100%" crops (actually I had to reduce the size of my scan a bit due to using a slightly higher DPI).
At left is a scan delivered from my lab, supposedly with "no adjustments" (and none added by me, except for rotation). I think it's sharpened to death, and possibly has auto-contrast turned on.
At right is a scan from my CanoScan 9000F, no adjustments. I think it has better tones out of the box. However, it has less apparent detail than the lab scan. I wonder if that's the super-sharpening talking?
