adobes, gouache
This was meant to be a "quick", "loose" painting, but it didn't quite work out that way. I don't use gouache very often, and I was working larger than usual (9x12"). So, I spent more time than I originally meant to (about 1.5 hours).
This is mostly pretty thin gouache washes, much like watercolor but a bit more "stable". I glazed the shadows over the original colors. At the end, I came in with more opaque touches. This is where gouache really comes to life.
There is a cart against the right-hand wall in the reference photo, but I screwed the cart up on my pencil sketch for the painting. So I converted it into a bunch of sticks leaning against the wall. I think it worked.
I almost put this aside as a failure but stuck it out to see what would happen. I'm glad I did because I'm actually pretty happy with it now that it's done.
Winsor & Newton gouache on 9x12" Arches rough. Palette was Ultramarine, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Yellow, and White.
