Hawker Sea Fury FB.11
Between 1945 and 1955 over 950 British Hawker Sea Fury were produced. It was the last piston-engined fighter aircraft to serve with the Royal Navy and the fastest production single piston-engined fighter ever built. The fuselage is similar to the well known Hawker Tempest, which saw plenty of action against German V1 flying bombs and jet-engined Me 262s in World War II.
The Fury, originally designed as a ground-attack aircraft, was produced for the Royal Navy as the Sea Fury featuring folding wings. When World War II came to an end, production focused on this carrier-based version which was operated from British and Australian aircraft carriers during the Korean War. The Sea Fury remained in service on British carriers until 1953 and was then replaced by the Hawker Sea Hawk.
The version appearing at AIRPOWER13 is a Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 belonging to French warbird collector Christophe Jacquard. Today it features the colour scheme of the Royal Australian Navy Sea Fury FB.11 WH589.
