Lindsey and Nicholas Waiting for their Uncle Lee, a U.S. Marine, to Return Home from Iraq, HMLA-367, Camp Pendleton, San Diego

These children are waiting for their U.S. Marine father (or mother) to return home from Iraq at HMLA-367 hangar, Camp Pendleton, San Diego, CA April 28, 2007, the day my nephew returned from Iraq and I was there to greet him. The atmosphere was restive and joyous and this brother and sister were so excited about the reunion with their parent, but knew they could not cross the flight line out into the tarmac. (SuperCobra Attack and Huey helicopters can be seen on the tarmac outside the hangar.)

LATER: Thank you Flickr member MizMarie for identifying these children as your grandchildren Nicholas and Lindsey, awaiting the arrival of their Uncle Lee returning home from Iraq!

More Info about the SuperCobra: The Bell AH-1 SuperCobra is a twin-engine attack helicopter based on the US Army's AH-1 Cobra. The twin Cobra family includes the AH-1J SeaCobra, the AH-1T Improved SeaCobra, and the AH-1W SuperCobra. The AH-1W is the backbone of the United States Marine Corps's attack helicopter fleet, but will be replaced in service by the AH-1Z Viper upgrade in the next decade.
