Quinze 2006

Quinze

Once upon a time during Fifteenth Century Venice there lived a clever Jester. The Jester's sole responsibility was to make masks for King; enabling the King to keep a great secret. The Jester a master artist created beautiful costumes and masks made from the finest baroque ribbons, silks and jewels.

All of the Jester's masks were a reflection of the Kingdoms’ aura. Not the King or his Court knew that the masks mocked the king as each mask mirrored the true message of the kingdoms thoughts toward the king. The Jester, thought of as a fool by the King, was never allowed to see the Kings face. No one in the entire kingdom was allowed to see the Kings real face; except for his Queen.

On the 14th day of the tenth month the annual fall harvest gala takes place in the Kingdoms Castle. The entire Kingdom attends wearing their finery. On this night the Jester comes up with a plan. The king eagerly waits for the Jester's masterpiece. But, on this night it is not the Jester's mask that the King will don. It is a mask of equal beauty made by the Jester's confidant; the Queen!

For it has been the Queen, the only one to see the Kings true identity, that has been giving the Jester stories of the Kings’ dreams. It is a night when the king is asleep that his truth sings out of his dreams. The Kings truth is one of fear and illusion.

The King loved his puzzle mask and wore it with grace to hide a sorrowful face.

Unknown to the Queen the Jester had yet another surprise for the King that gala night. The Jester had made puzzle masks for the entire village and as the king was announced the whole of the Kingdom changed into their puzzle masks.

As the King surveyed his grand ballroom he realized that his dreams and fears were part of the same dreams and fears of the whole kingdom. As a tear rolled from under the Kings mask he recognized the love that his kingdom had for him. And then for the first time in the Kings reign he removed his mask for all to see the tears of joy rolling down his face.

From that day forward the King never hide behind a mask again.

The End.
