DIY: SPDIFmaster v2, "the pod"
this is a digital audio switch or input selector.
the 3 ports to the left (near the green barrel things, called 'chokes') are the 3 inputs. you send sources here (cd, dvd, bluray, etc) and the one on the top left is the output.
you use a remote control and talk to this box via 'i2c' and you get the port selection you want. plus, you have 3 software settable LEDs (top) that can be used to indicate port selected or anything else. plus, you can turn all the leds off (nite cinema mode) on software command but not have to lose your input selection.
software supported in LCDuino code base (going public in a week or two if all goes as planned).
circuit uses 74151 as 1-of-8 selector and pcf8574 as a i2c port expander; that gives me remote control of this over what is essentially a 4 wire connection (2 for power/gnd and 2 for clock/data). you can have up to 8 ports if you install this board in a larger enclosure and wire up more of those opto TOSLINK blocks.
