Kalliope is one of the stage kittens for tonight's This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things revue in Brooklyn with the Rhinestone Gorilla Burlesque. She doesn't have the sort of heavy-duty glitter makeup that an occasion like this calls for, so company member Avian Rush comes to her aid.
There's no light to speak of - the dressing room at Matchless is the employee bathroom, and it's already filled with glitter and dancers - so I hold my trusty flashlight while Avian applies eyeliner, sticky stuff, oodles of silver glitter, lipstick, and then red glitter for the lips. Kinky Demure adds a bit of repurposed blush. The transformation unfolds, and all is ready by showtime.
