Rose plantations
These vast rose plantation greenhouses, owned by a Chinese company, are not just exploiting the natural resources of the area but also pumps thousands of cubic meters of water per minute from Lake Ziway, dumping back tons of toxic waste into it, mixed with nutrient-rich run-off. This is the first of a chain of lakes forming the very diverse and unique ecosystem of the Rift Valley, contributing to the whole stuff being poisoned, eutrophicated and slowly dryed up. Sure, it provides some jobs for the locals but soon those locals won't have much food to eat, if this goes on like it does. Mostly it provides lots of money to unscrupulous Chinese billionaires and a few local politicians that don't give a shit about the environment. It's quite a sad story.
