Rebels Without a Cause ... or Permit
Not so much an anti-war demonstration, but more an impromptu rave complete with loud punk-rock music, Students for a Democratic Society members marched up Connecticut Avenue, only some of them knowing the reason, on the sixth anniversary of the war in Iraq, March 19, 2009. Some of them shouting different slogans, the tumult seemed to lack any direction or creativity on the students' part.
"We have a right to be here," shouted one of them. "We're here to fuck shit up!"
Police response to the rally was somewhat unproportional to the 200-odd students as squad cars, mounted police, bicyclists and others on foot congested traffic at the intersection, causing disgruntled citizens to leave their stopped vehicles to see what the hype at the height of rush hour was all about.
