Tom Porter's 1890 Cabin _9816
This picture was taken during our drive from California to Banff in Canada. In it are scenes in the Northern Cascades of the state of Washington as we move toward Glacier National Park in Montana. In 1890's Tom Porter filed a timber claim in the Skagit area of Oregon. With his friend Bob Kerr built his cabin in which he married and had seven children, all born in this cabin. During the flood of 1897 the Porters were forced to spend their days in the loft.
After his death the land was purchased by Alvin and Sarah Harris who later donated the cabin to the County Park system in 1967.
