The village of Mogarraz is quite interesting not only because of its old history but more recently because of a local artist, Florencio Maillo. The story we received is that at one point in the not too distant past economic prospects in the town looked bleak. Many had hopes on immigrating to South America for employment. Maillo took it upon himself to paint the faces of the locals as a remembrance. Some 388 portraits now hang along the exterior walls of many of the homes clustered along the narrow pathways throughout the village
