THE IRON BRIDGE OF LAGNY-THORIGNY DESTROY BY THE FRENCH ENGINEERS
A banal postcard but a very interesting text. First of all, a few details on the importance of campaign addresses. Indeed it is not like in peacetime one registers a simple address towards a place, here it is an address towards a person in a precise unit. The unit moves but the courier follows it.
2nd interesting point he points out to the recipients that they could have been invaded. Indeed at the beginning of the war the German troops quickly progressed towards Paris (this is why on the view it is about a French bridge dynamited by the French troops to stop the German advance.
The soldier who writes manages a unit which takes care of creating fortifications in the alebtours of Paris, it is already a question of trenches the war will quickly start to get bogged down.
Sad element but very running at the beginning of the war the soldier wonders when will be the end. Unfortunately it is only at the beginning of October 1914, so there will remain 4 years of increasingly terrible and atrocious war. But he is still happy not to have to go to the fire, he is safe for now.

Boches !! ... comment allez
vous tous deux ... Et Jean ? ..
Heureusement le pauvre gosse
est encore trop jeune sans cela quelles
angoisses auraient été les vôtres. La guerre
sera finie quand on pourra penser à appeler
sa classe. Quelle terrible guerre mes bons
amis ! ..
Elles vont bien.
moi je me porte bien.
... Gaston"
